1.    Eligibility
The student must obtain three colours from Academic, Sport, Culture, Drama, Music and Leadership and only one colour from that field.

 

2.    Year 12 and Year 13 students will normally be eligible for an award.

      The teacher in-charge must be satisfied that the nominee has displayed:

2.1  Exemplary sportsmanship;

2.2  Participation eg in club matches, practices, rehearsals etc,

2.3  Loyalty to the school in that particular code

2.4  To be considered for an Akina Blazer students are expected to represent the School in all competitions.  However, when the School can not provide the level of competition to enable the student to fulfil his potential, a dispensation may be granted after discussion and will be decided on merit.

 

3.    Nominee’s must demonstrate in class and around the school;

3.1  A positive attitude to study and school life in general.   Students with poor behaviour in School, no matter how well they behave and act within their particular code, will NOT be considered for an Akina Jacket.

Gifted and Talented

After a rigorous selection process, Hastings Boys' High School was selected by the Ministry of Education for Extending High Standards Across Schools (E.H.S.A.S.) funding for 2006 - 2010.

Working with Hamilton and Rotorua Boys' High Schools the education of gifted and talented boys and the development of best practice will be shared between these three Super 8 schools.

Cambridge International Exams

2007 turned out another batch of very pleasing Cambridge IGCSE results for our school.   Our Cambridge International Exams are used to extend and supplement our students and are a welcomed and valued analysis of our achievement in relation to the over one million of other students who sit these exams.
