Testimonials

Lihong Leng from Cambodia

My name is Lihong Leng.  I am from Cambodia.  This is my first year at Hastings Boys' High School and I am studying at year 12 level.  I am studying six subjects at school, English, Maths, ESOL, Tourism, Computers and Metalwork.  I live with my homestay family and I am very happy and comfortable there.

My hobbies are listening to music, watching YouTube and playing football and volleyball.  After school or on the weekend I like to call my Mum.  Sometimes I go shopping and sometimes I go to help my uncle at his shop.

For other students that want to come here you should have good English Language, writing and listening skills and you must be patient when studying.

Joeli Rauca from Fiji

Bula my name is Joeli Catinaivalu Rauca and I come from the the village of Tabuya Nabukelevu Kadavu on the beautiful island of Fiji.

I am attending Hastings Boys' High School and I am in year 13 this year.  This is my second year and I came here for school and rugby.  The subjects I take are English, PE, High Performance Academy, Computers and Wood Tech.

My homestays parents in Hastings are just like my Dad and Mum.  They help me with everything and I'm just happy to have them here. Having a homestay is good as they just treat you like their son.

My hobbies are rugby, volleyball and singing. I am playing for the Hastings Boys' High School 1st XV Rugby team and the Senior B volleyball team.  My third hobby is singing and I sing in church.  My favourite things to do out of school is hang out with my friends or play rugby.

Revish Karunasinghe from Sri Lanka

I am Revish Sanole Karunasinghe from Sri Lanka. I have been studying at HBHS since March 2018 and am in Year 11 now. The subjects that I study are English, Maths, Physical Education, Digital Technologies, Science and Geography.

I stay here with my uncle, aunt and two of my cousins in Havelock North since my parents live in Sri Lanka.  My hobbies are collecting stamps, watching live cricket matches and reading books.

My ambition is to be a pilot; therefore I have to study well in school and at university in order to achieve my ambition in the future.

I play badminton and cricket in school but my favorite sport is swimming and I became the Champion under year 11 at the Inter-House Swimming Sports in February 2019 and third place in the 25m Breast Stroke at Hawke's Bay Secondary School Swimming Championship 2019 held in Flaxmere, Waterworld, Hastings. I also attended the Super Eight Badminton Tournament in Gisborne.

I have received a great opportunity to come here and study and my uncle and aunt have been giving me the utmost support throughout my stay in New Zealand. I really love to study here since the methods that are used for teaching are very efficient and easy to understand and the teachers and staff of the school are also very kind and helpful. There are many extracurricular activities to choose which will help us to build up our own career.

New Zealand gives me a different experience compared to my home country since its weather is a totally new experience for me but I really enjoy it. As such, I take this opportunity to recommend this school to other international students too to come here and explore about the New Zealand educational system, culture and we all in this school are like one family.

I visited Auckland and Wellington last year with my uncle's family and with my parents when they visited me last September 2018.  I am proud to be an Akina student and wish Hastings Boys’ High School every success in the future endeavors.
