Hastings Boys' High School upholds the finest traditions of education and is seen as an innovative leader in quality boys' education.

School Wide Goals - 2012
- Maintain or improve current 2011 NCEA level of achievement at Levels 1, 2, 3 and University Entrance.
- Maori and Pacific Island achievement is the same as school wide goals.
- To continue to develop effective use of data analysis to improve teaching and learning.
- To action the RESPECT code of students.
- To improve the work ethics of students.
- To improve student literacy.
- To produce a differentiated professional development programme which best meets the needs of staff.
- To develop specific outlines and resources for each year group to enable teachers to deliver a successful PACE programme.
- To maintain and improve standards of performance in all co-curricular activity.
- To develop stronger sustainable links with the local community.
