Meet some Year Nines of 2011
Each year, boys from schools all around the greater Hastings areas choose to attend Hastings Boys' High school. Here we meet some Year 9 boys and find out just why they chose HBHS and how they have found their first two terms at high school.

Michael Stirling, 9Hi I chose Hastings Boys' High School because I am a keen sportsman and I know that this school will give me a lot of opportunities. I also chose HBHS because the school has a great rate of achievement at NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3. This will give me a good academic background leading into university. I was impressed at the Open Night when we got to see the different Technology classes. I participate in F Grade Rugby, Basketball, Colts Cricket and the Rugby and Cricket Academy. During the Open Night I also got to meet some of the teachers who were very professional and friendly. In my first two terms I have really enjoyed my classes and teachers and I look forward to the rest of my time at Hastings Boys' High School. |

Bailey Tamati, 9Pa Choosing to come to Hastings Boys' High School was a very easy decision to make for two reasons. The first was the sporting and academic opportunities available to students that I noticed at the Open Night. The second are the stories my Grandfather, Father and my Uncles used to tell me about the school when they attended. About the friendships they made, not only with other students but with staff whom they still are friends with today. I participate in F Grade Rugby, Senior and Junior Softball and Māori Performing Arts. Hastings Boys' High School was a great choice.

Alex Thomas-Long, 9Hi I had an opportunity to look around the local schools and Hastings Boys' High School stood out for me. I went to the Open Night and I found the teachers positive, interesting and exciting. I really liked the idea of the fibre optic cable for the computers. NCEA results at Hastings Boys' High School were really good and I wanted to be a part of that. I have been involved in TOM, Debating and Hockey and there are many more opportunities at H.B.H.S. if you choose to take them up.

Ibanez King-Edwards, 9Hi The reason I chose to come to Hastings Boys' High School was because of the wide range of sport and how their teaching is outstanding with most seniors passing NCEA levels. I recommend Hastings Boys' High School because it's a great school with great teachers, excellent academic results and a wide range of sports and other co-curricular activities |
