Ultra Fast Broadband
Hastings Boy's High School investment in high speed fibre optic cable means it is now amongst the most hi-tech schools in the country. Only one other school in Hawke's Bay has ultra fast broadband. The article from Hawke's Bay Today recently gives a few more details:

Hastings Boys' High School will soon be one of the fastest schools in the Bay, and it's not their First 15 wingers. Three Hawke's Bay companies _ Glenn Cook Technologies, Kinetic Electrical and Mackersey Construction _ have come together to deliver it speedy broadband by September. As part of the Government's $1.5 billion six-year Broadband Investment Initiative the school will receive new servers and wiring connecting straight into underground fibre optic cables.

The School Network Upgrade Project is focused on upgrading schools' internal cabling infrastructure in preparation for the use of ultra-fast broadband in their teaching and learning programmes. Hastings Boys' is only the second school in the Bay to embark on such an upgrade. |

``The availability of ultra-fast broadband represents a great leap forward in teaching and learning,'' Hastings Boys' High School headmaster Rob Sturch said.
``The ability to video conference with teachers and students from around the world, to offer subjects and learning not currently available and the ability to source information and knowledge in an unrestricted format will be a prized acquisition for our school.''
This year, $37.5 million will be invested in this latest phase of the School Network Upgrade Project nationwide. |
