Sports Academies
Highly skilled and talented students can challenge themselves by playing at higher levels. The school develops elite student athletes through the Academy System which in Hawke's Bay is unique to Hastings Boys’High School.
Academies offered in 2010 / 2011 are:

The sporting benefits are clear. As an example Hastings Boys' High School three years ago had 2 Hawke's Bay Hockey Representatives. This year the School has 13 players representing Hawke's Bay.
Other sporting opportunites offered at Hastings Boys' High Schools are:
- National Tournaments
Hastings Boys' regularly has one of the biggest contingents in Hawke’s Bay of school teams competing at their respective summer and winter National Tournaments. The school heavily subsidises the cost of each trip keeping parental / guardian contributions to an absolute minimum. Other local school have charge as much as $2000 for National Tournament sports trips... At Hastings Boys' we try to restrict parental contributions to a maximum of $200 per trip.
- Super 8 Competition
Hastings Boys' are part of the elite Super 8 Schools (Top Central North Island Boys' Schools) competition. This is an elite competition in several codes aimed at extending our elite athletes. In recent years numerous All Blacks have been produced by Super 8 Schools as well as the 2010 World Schools Champions
- International Tours for Senior and Junior Teams
In recent years Hastings Boys' have sent numerous school teams from several sporting codes overseas to experience a different level of competition.
