Hastings Boys' High Scool has a long and proud tradition of producing runners of top quality.  The Master In Charge of Athletics is the Sports Director Mr. Te Ahu Teki supported by Mr John Hill.  Mr. Tony McBride's highly qualified Physical Education Department identify and nurtures talented athletes at all levels in the school.  A full year Speed Agility Quickness programme has been put in place now. Promising sportsmen from several sports codes have been identified and now are in training.

East Coast North Island Athletics Championships 2011

In 2011 Hastings Boys' sent the largest contingent of athletes from any school to the East Coast North Island Championships which involved school teams from Hawke’s Bay and Poverty Bay.  The Hastings Boys' Athletics Team competed in the majority of events with a huge team of 43 athletes.  The East Coast Champs were held at the new Regional Sports Park at Percival Road and saw Hastings Boys’ athletes perform very well competing against some very tough opposition.
