1st XI Cricket Review 2011
|
The 2010/2011 season has been a vibrant and positive one for cricket at Hastings Boys’ High School. The 1st XI was promoted at the start of the season to the Hawke’s Bay Senior Men’s competition after it won the 1st XI School grade in 2010.
Before Christmas the 1st XI registered wins over Havelock North Cricket Club Senior Men’s, Central Hawke’s Bay Cricket Club Senior Men’s and Napier Old Boys Marist Senior Men’s. Since Christmas the 1st XI beat Havelock and CHB again and also had a win against Celtic Cricket Club Senior Men’s. Overall the team finished 6th out of 11 teams, an outstanding result for the first year back in the men’s grade.

The team was well lead by senior player Jayden Wiggins who captained the side well and was the top run scorer for the season. Gabe Papuni and Alex Withington at times contributed with the bat but more consistency will be expected from these two talented players next season. Luke Bradley contributed well with the ball and bat and assisted Jayden in the leadership role within the side. Reuben Henry and Jarod Hughes were at times very difficult for opposition batsmen to face. Reuben beating the bat with pace and Jarod Hughes tying the batsmen down with good line and length. With a number of young Year 11’s already in the squad and a strong 2nd XI squad that has been playing in the 1st XI schools’ competition the 2011/2012 season should be a prosperous one for the Hastings Boys’ High School 1st XI cricket team. | |||||
