Schools are Best for Boys

Cricket is one of the major summer codes at Hastings Boys' High School.  We are extremely fortunate to have three NZ Cricket Level 2 accredited coaches on the staff who support the coaching and development of our cricket players.

Director of Cricket Mr Dean Roulston currently coaches the 1st XI and oversees the Cricket program. Mr Trent Miller currently coaches the junior Colts team and provides support for the 1st XI.  Mr Dave Castle teaches the Cricket Academy and assists Mr Roulston with the 1st XI and Mr Miller with the Colts side.

The Cricket Academy operates at year 9 (twice weekly) and year 10 (four times a week) and provides players the opportunity to develop both as cricketers and as young men. The focus of the curriculum at year 9 is on core skill development, with year 10 continuing this work along with developing game understanding and awareness.

Hastings Boys' currently run five cricket teams at a variety of levels.  Whilst the 1st XI Cricket team is the flagship for the code at school, Hastings Boys' dedicate a large proportion of our resources to the Junior and Colts teams.  Development of players in these junior teams, as in all codes, are seen as the key to success with the senior teams.

We have excellent playing and training facilities including an excellent grass wicket block and artificial wicket, a 4 lane net facility with bowling machine and a modern, stylish pavilion.

Overseas trips are also a feature of Cricket Teams at Hastings Boys' High School.  In the past, the boys have travelled to Australia every second year which has been a fantastic experience for the students on many levels. In 2019, we will be broadening our horizons and embarking on a 12 day tour to Sri Lanka with 2 teams which promises to be a once in a lifetime opportunity for our boys.
