In February 2007 Hastings Boys’ launched its Football Academy, which we believe is the first of its kind in New Zealand. Building on the success of the last five years, culminating in our 10th placing in New Zealand in 2006, the Academy is staffed by the most experienced and qualified coaches currently available in New Zealand and supported in their academic pursuits by the teacher coaches at the school. The Academy aims to link School, Home and the Community to develop an individual's academic, sporting and personal excellence.
Members of the Academy have a pathway through the school and their academic work is constantly monitored to ensure that they are achieving the correct balance between their sporting interest and school work. The combined senior class is working towards level 3 Physical Education achievement standards, which will give them one subject for entry into university.
Sixty students across the school have taken the opportunity to join the academy, with a combined total of fifteen hours of professional coaching, delivered during timetabled lessons by Matt Chandler (UEFA A Qualified Coach and Manager of the Hawkes Bay United Youth Academy).
There really is no better place to be in New Zealand for any youngster interested in football, please spread the word throughout the community and any enquiries regarding the Academy can be made to:
