Hawke's Bay Hockey 8-a-Side Club Competition

The end of Season 'Super Eight' Competition for Clubs started on the 11th September and ran for 4 weeks.  Director of Hockey Dean Hulls decided to enter the school 1st team as "Hastings Men" into this league to gauge how competitive they would be against teams from the adult grade.  Hastings Boys' was the only school based team to enter the men's competition.  The competition included 3 teams from this year's HB Premier Club Competition winners Bay Independent and 1 team from Akina Rovers HC who have won the club competition for 9 of the last 10 years!  Other men's clubs teams entered included Fitchley, Napier Tech and two Te Awa Scinde teams.

The game was played with normal hockey rules on a full field.  Teams were 8 a side including fully padded goal keeper.  Due to the extra pitch to be covered the game was shortened to 2*12 min halves.

Whilst not as competitve as the normal winter club competition there were some good players and teams on show.  The two games we lost narrowly were against Bay Independent teams that had many of their premier players including National Hockey League players.  We managed a narrow win against club powerhouses & eventual competition winners Akina Rovers HC... a side that also featured several premier grade players as well as former NHL players.  HBHS managed to beat all of the other club teams indicating that we would be more than competitive in the winter men's club competition if we were to enter.

Final Tables and Summary of Hastings Boys' Games are shown below:

(Some results of lower placed teams are missing but they can't affect HBHS finishing runners up)
