1st XV match report vs Napier Boys' High School (Hurricanes final)

1st September

Hastings Boys' High School put in a valiant effort but came up just short of beating Napier Boys' High School in the final of the Hurricanes Youth Rugby Championship.

Napier started the game well and put Hastings under a lot of pressure but Hastings defended with a lot of energy to hold them out.  Napier finally cracked the Hastings defense and took a 5-0 lead.  Hastings however hit back strongly and with some well constructed play and a smart move down the blindside saw Joeli Rauca score to level the scores.

Napier then went back on the attack but yet again the Hastings defence held strong.  Hastings conceded a penalty inside their own 22 and Napier converted it to take them to a 8-5 lead.  Hastings then went on the attack again and some great interlink play coupled with more aggressive defence saw Joeli score his second try to give Hastings a 10-8 halftime lead.

Hastings produced much the same in the second half.  Continued periods of attack unfortunately were not rewarded with points and it was Napier that scored first.  A couple of unlucky bounces of the ball didn't go Hastings' way and Napier then scored right on fulltime to give them a 20-10 victory.
