2010 Term1 Tennis Report

In 2010 we entered two Senior and three Junior teams into the Hawke’s Bay competition.  The Senior A team of Lance Knauf, James Ferguson and Cairns Cudd-Dixon and Tim Woods played with a lot of heart in the first half of the season but only managed to come away with one victory over Te Aute College.

In the Super 8 tournament held in Tauranga we took a very young team with four out of the five team members in year 11 or below.  The boys played with a great spirit but were unable to come away with a win, but came very close to beating Rotorua.  James Field in year 9 was particularly impressive and shows a lot of potential and promise for the future. The boys will benefit from the experience of going to this tournament and seeing the level they need to reach.

The Junior A team of James Field, Mitchell Grant, Stefen Kitching-Nicholson and Shaun Fannin have been the outstanding team so far this season winning every single fixture 6-0.  They have beaten Central Hawke’s Bay College, Lindisfarne 1 and 2 and Napier Boys’ A3 to win all their fixtures.  A great effort.

The Senior B team of Jake Vesty, Mohandeep Singh, Cam Nicol and Brendan Hammond only managed one win, also over Te Aute College. The boys always played with great enthusiasm.  The Junior B team of Hamish Carruthers, Scott Ormond, Angus Kilkolly, Thomas Sturch, Jonty Tong, Che Jesson Bentley and Taylor Baistow have also performed very well, winning four out of their five fixtures.  The Junior Novice team have improved a lot as the season has progressed. All these boys had never played any competitive tennis before and they certainly enjoyed playing every Tuesday. The team consisted of Sam Ferguson, Sam Paget, Nicholas Jablonski, Tumatahi Kihi, Daeshon Potae and Tumatahi Kihi.  Overall, the 2010 term one season was very successful both results wise and with the enthusiasm shown by the boys.

Well done to all involved.
