Victoria University School Leaver Scholarships

Applications for the Victoria University school-leaver scholarships are now open, and will close at 4.30pm on Saturday 15 September 2018. Students will only need to complete one online application to be considered for all three school-leaver scholarships.

Applicants for these scholarships will be notified of the outcome mid-October.

Applications can be submitted on the Victoria University website.

Changes to the scholarships

Victoria University of Wellington has a comprehensive suite of scholarships that support significant numbers of students throughout their higher education journey. There have been changes made to the suite of school-leaver scholarships to reflect the university's holistic approach in enabling students to achieve their ambitions. There are new names to reflect this change.

Each scholarship is named for a different type of pounamu (greenstone). Māori consider pounamu to be a taonga and the precious stone has an important place in te ao Māori. Pounamu protects and acts as a source of strength for those who possess it and for future generations.

Naming the scholarships for pounamu is a signal of the importance of these scholarships and the enduring impact Victoria University believe they can have for students. The three school-leaver scholarships are the Tangiwai, Totoweka and Kahotea scholarships.

More information on each scholarship can be found below and on the Victoria University website.

Up to 600 scholarships will be awarded, valued at $5,000 each, which can be put towards accommodation costs at a Victoria hall of residence, or (for students not in a hall) as a contribution towards your first-year living costs.
