Learning at Hastings Boys' High School

International Student Learning

At Hastings Boys' we understand how boys learn. Our academic achievement can be attributed to outstanding teaching and a supportive learning environment. This puts us amongst the best schools in New Zealand.

"Every student is seen as unique, with their own specific needs and aspirations."

Every student is seen as unique, with their own specific needs and aspirations. Students are offered IELTS, the New Zealand Qualification system of NCEA Exams and Cambridge International Exams.

NCEA Qualification

There are three levels of NCEA. In general, students work through levels 1 to 3 in years 11 to 13 at school.

Our boys study courses or subjects. Achievement in each subject may be assessed through several standards, with each standard covering a specific set of skills and knowledge.

When you achieve a standard you gain credits. Studetns must achieve a certain number of credits to gain NCEA.

International Rugby Programme

The international rugby programme offers top-tier coaching from experts with extensive experience in provincial union academies, Hurricanes U18 teams, Hawke’s Bay Premier Club teams, and as resource coaches for the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union.

Our coaches, who have also competed at the highest levels, including the Māori All Blacks, Hurricanes, Blues, and Highlanders, bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table.

Please contact Mr Jason Bird, 1st XV Manager, for more information.
