Kapa Haka

Te Rōpū Manu Huia have qualified for 2026 Nationals

Kapa Haka is an important way for our Māori ākonga to connect with Tikanga Māori. The Kapa Haka group are the leaders of the school haka, which all boys learn when they first enter school as Year 9 students.

We currently have three Kapa Haka groups. Our main group competes at the annual Super 8 Culture competition and performs school powhiri; Te Rōpū Manu Huia is the group representing both Hastings Boys' and Hastings Girls' High Schools; and as of 2025 we have added a third "B" group for our up and coming ākonga to gain valuable performing experience.
