Wellbeing and Support

At Hastings Boys' High School, we believe that every boy deserves to feel seen, supported and valued. We work closely with students and whānau to ensure each young man is thriving - not just academically, but emotionally and socially as well.

Physical Wellbeing

We understand that wellbeing includes physical as well as mental health. Our aim is to make health support accessible and familiar, so that students know where to go and feel comfortable asking for help when they need it.

Nurses
We have three on-site nurses: Nurse Deborah, Nurse Tayla and Nurse Tamsin.

One of the nurses will be available daily between 8:30 am - 3:30 pm, Monday-Friday in the Administration Hub.

Physio
A physio is also on site at school. See Mrs Heibner.

Dental
The mobile dental hub is currently on-site to ensure boys have access to quality dental care.

Special Health Requirements
We have students with a variety of individual needs. Our staff have systems for supporting each of these students as needed.

Learning Support

Every boy learns differently, and at Hastings Boys' High School we're committed to making sure each student has the tools and support he needs to succeed. Whether he needs help building confidence in literacy, is learning English for the first time, or wants extra support to reach academic goals, our learning support services are here to help.

Career Development

Your son's future starts here - and we're here to help shape it.

Our Careers and Pathways teams support the boys in planning for life after school.

We offer career advice, Gateway placements, visits from Universities and help with job and scholarship applications. Boys get to meet industry reps and explore a wide range of career options so they can make informed choices about their future.

Guidance and Counselling

Sometimes boys need someone to talk to. When they do, our guidance counselling staff are available. Our on-site counsellors offer a safe, confidential space where students can speak freely about what's on their mind. Whether they're dealing with stress, family matters, friendships, or mental health concerns, our counselling team provides compassionate, professional support.

Pastoral Care

Our pastoral care system is designed to support the whole boy. Deans, form teachers and senior staff work as a team to build strong relationships with students and provide ongoing guidance throughout their time in school.

We take a proactive approach checking in regularly, encouraging open communication, and teaching boys how to manage their wellbeing with confidence. Respect, honesty and accountability are the foundations for every interaction.
