On Saturday, 13th September - ten debaters from years 9 through to 12 spent a long day at Napier Boys' High School participating in the Impromptu Debating Cup with a range of other schools. They had only 10 minutes to prepare their debates once they were given a topic - which is incredibly challenging and competitive. They were given some very unusual moots and we won a few rounds over the course of the day.
On Tuesday our year 9 debaters had a default win, and on Wednesday our mixed senior teams had a win and a couple of close losses in Havelock.
It's been a good year for debating, with more students involved and some great debates. There will be a couple more debates in term 4, and the outlook for 2026 is very promising.
