Ākina Basketball at Hastings Boys' High School

The Ākina Basketball Programme is designed to provide students with a high-quality, purpose-driven basketball experience. Beyond developing technical skills and game knowledge, the programme aims to cultivate character, leadership, and resilience, helping young men succeed both on the court and in life.

Mission

  • Develop well-rounded student-athletes through a structured basketball programme.
  • Promote discipline, teamwork, and leadership.
  • Create an environment where players are challenged to grow and demonstrate Ākina values.
  • Encourage pride in representing Hastings Boys’ High School both on and off the court.
  • Prepare students for success in sport, school, and life through coaching, academic support, and community engagement.

Our vision is to empower every student to reach their full potential.

Encourage students to become the best version of themselves - both as athletes and as young men of character.

Foster growth on and off the court through the school’s values of respect, perseverance, and excellence.

Thank you to the following organisations for supporting sport at Hastings Boys' High School

Through the Hastings Boys’ High School basketball program, we develop high-performing, well-rounded athletes by integrating technical skill development, physical preparation, and mental performance skills. Our approach is designed to enhance on-court execution while equipping players with the habits and mindset required for success beyond basketball.

The program has a proven history of athletes progressing into representative and performance pathways. While competitive excellence is a core objective, equal emphasis is placed on standards, accountability, and consistency in academic engagement, behaviour, and preparation.

We actively develop and reinforce values including respect, integrity, diligence, and a positive performance mindset, recognising that sustained success is driven by character as much as capability. These standards underpin our expectations for how athletes train, compete, and represent the school.
