The LOWE 1000 is the only school fundraiser on the annual calendar that allows students to directly raise funds for the Hastings Boys' High School Old Boys' Association (HBHSOBA). The funds raised support important school projects, enabling current students to play a meaningful role in preserving and enhancing the rich traditions of our school. By participating, boys become part of the living legacy and tapestry of 122 years of Hastings Boys' High School history.
The event is named in honour of George Lowe, distinguished Hastings Boys' High School Old Boy, Wall of Fame inductee, and member of Sir Edmund Hillary's historic 1953 Everest expedition.
Inspired by George Lowe's remarkable achievement in conquering Mount Everest, students will attempt to emulate his feat by collectively covering the equivalent of Lowe's climb from Base Camp 1 to the summit and back through physical activity.
On Friday, 16 October 2026, students will take part in an inter-house challenge on the school fields, seeing how many laps they can complete.
The goal is for each House to accumulate as many 68-kilometer sets as possible, symbolising the journey.
We ask all students to use the school holiday period to seek sponsorship from family, friends, and supporters.
Every contribution helps support the success of this fundraiser and is greatly appreciated.
